"Skiing and guns seems like a dangerous combination"

Oh please. The shooting sports are the oldest of the modern olympic sports. I can't think of an Olympic sport that is completely safe.

The sport has it's origin in the need for soliders to master marksmanship and cross-country skiing for national defense.

It's actually quite a novel idea. Marksmanship requires great focus and calm while cross-country skiing is a very aerobic activity.

Switching back and forth demonstrates incredible physical control - with their hearts racing from the cross-country element they must hold perfectly still to shoot with great precision.

What other Olympic sport forces the athelete to push his/her body to alternating extremes such as this?
