Chad Hedrick’s goal of five gold medals came to an end today when Team USA was eliminated from the speed skating team pursuit competition. I’m very sad that Chad won’t be able to tie Eric Heiden’s record but hopeful that he will add more medals to the gold one he already won.

Chad is upset because Davis displayed a little selfishness in order to achieve a little glory. When it was Chad was the selfish one for wanted Davis to forsake his personal goal so that Chad could get his five medals. Now, who’s the selfish one.
Well-stated John Stout. NBC is trying to keep this story alive (to boost ratings, perhaps?). Hedrick didn’t skate the pursuit for the team, but for himself. Mr Davis has taken the high road on the issue, by not stooping to the level both the network and Hedrick have by engaging in the conversation. It should be noted that Shani Davis chose to focus instead on his race rather than granting interviews to those hounding him to make a story out of something that truly is not newsworthy. Who can blame him!
NBC did an embarassing job by going after that angle in his post-win interview, rather than recognizing his true accomplishment. What a letdown for him as well as viewers…how disgusting is that?
