WHY? Why would Lindsey Jacobellis pull a hotdog move seconds from winning the gold? Did she learn nothing from Apolo Ohno? On one of the last jumps, she grabbed her snowboard, caught an edge and fell, leaving the door open for Switzerland’s Tanja Frieden to take the gold. I know snowboarding is about style, and all, but couldn’t she be stylish after winning the gold? I do feel sorry for her, though. I imagine this is something she’ll replay in her mind for a long time. Dominique Maltais, of Canada, took the bronze.

proof that american snowboarders do not deserve gold medals until they learn to wear tights.
(and yes i am american but i wear hard boots and plate bindings, i wish our team did)
I’m actually more embarrassed for our own american media than for Lindsey. All everyone is concentrating on and concentrating on and concentrating on is the fall. Yea, it’s news…no doubt…but sitting up like an elite jerk and beating this girl up about it over and over and over is just plain wrong. She fell, got up, and STILL came in 2nd for a Silver medal. That shows something about her overall skill and poise. In the ABC interview afterwards, she showed the same character. I was embarrassed for Bob Costas, whom I normally like a lot.
No wonder no one is watching…many of the athletes (unlike a quality person like Lindsey) take it as just another gig and the media thinks they “frame” everything for everyone. Hey, sportscasters and other media losers…it’s not all about you and your negative attitude.
GO USA!
I think NBC’s coverage of the womens Boardcross final was terrible. They didn’t interview the Gold Medalist!..They didn’t update viewers about the condition of the injured athlete!... and their over reaction to a lapse in concentration by Anerican boarder snoballed into an unfortunate lapse in Olympic Spirit by Many!
I think someone should take all the HOT DOG moves over the years that we have seen by pro, college, and HS athletes that have cost a team a victory MAKE IT INTO A TRAINING VIDEO ( the one handed dropped fly ball in baseball, the fumbled football when the ball is being held up like a trophy on the 1 yard line, the easy lay up that turns into a dunk when behind by 1 pt. that hits the steel rim and flys into the crowd, and so on. SHOW THAT VIDEO TO ALL 5th and 6th graders that are learning sports and then at the begining of the every season for life until they officially retire from sports totally.
What was more surprising was the excuse she used that she was trying to “stabilize” her jump. She could have owned up to a hotdog maneuver and took her lumps. None of her previous videos for that jump showed her stablizing with a backside grab. She’ll be reliving that for a long time to come.
Lindsey made a mistake. Why? There she was with a great lead, having the time of her life and in her enthusiasm and joy she decided to be a little bit more. Imagine berating someone because they ONLY won a silver medal! Do we want to teach our children that sports are only about winning? Only play if your paycheck is in the millions? Never make a mistake because you’ll never be forgiven? Lets smile with her; appauld her accomplishment and cheer her on next time- remember she’s still a kid- there will be a next time.
congratulations Lindsey on WINNING the silver medal.
Don’t pay Bob Costas any mind! He probably couldn’t travel 5 feet on a snowboard without falling and making an a—of himself.
I will cheer you on next time in Vancover.
