The United States has chosen gold medal winning speedskater Joey Cheek to carry the national flag in the Olympic closing ceremonies this weekend. As you know, we just adore Joey, who has displayed a real humanity and grace in this Olympics, donating the money he received for his medals to charity. I am proud to have him represent the United States in this way. In an interview, he sounded like this would be really meaningful to him, so I’m glad he’ll have this opportunity.

I’m proud of Joey Cheek, and it was wonderful and exciting watch these talented young people from all over the world give their all, and heartwarming to witness them congratulating others for winning even when they were from another country. It was fun to hear the commentators getting so excited no matter who Olympian was or what country they were from, just for the sheer talent. How wonderful it would be if these wonderful young people were the future leaders of the world, what hope and promise that could give us all. It was nice to see from the opening ceremony to the closing that the theme was peace. All of these young smiling faces gathered together in the opening ceremonies certainly showed that maybe peace could be possible for them, and generation to come! An added note: According to the media the Olympic didn’t do well in the ratings, too bad because everyone that I know that did, truly enjoyed it.
